Blackfriars Pub

The Blackfriars, Salford is a former public house which is Grade II listed. It had been closed for many years and had suffered as a result. It has now been sensitively renovated and refurbished alongside Local Blackfrairs, the adjacent residential development. The building now provides a gateway to two apartment tower blocks within the development.

Working with Jon Matthews Architects, the building has been taken back to its former glory with its original features lovingly restored and reused.  The results of a detailed structural review required a point cloud survey of the rear gable walls to confirm the degree to which they were out of plumb.  The conclusion of this work required the walls to be carefully taken down and rebuilt using the original masonry where possible, a piece which benefited from the detailed input and collaboration with the local conservation officer and our heritage consultant.  The building is now successfully being used as a public house once again and with the benefit of the contemporary extension, which ties it seamlessly into the development to the rear, provides additional space for dining.
