The main academy was set up by the Essa Foundation Academy Trust under the Government’s Free School Initiative. This project entailed the extensive refurbishment of an existing building on the old school site, and fulfilled a need within the local community by offering two form entry to an infant and junior school.
We worked closely with the contractor ISG to refurbish the existing school building within a very limited budget with positive effect. Within these tight financial constraints, we dealt with the building engineering aspects of the project in a pragmatic way by working with the architect to minimise structural works. To allow for car parking and landscaped areas to be increased, we developed an appropriate Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) allowing discharge to the local water course.
